RESISTORS

Resistors! Lots of fun, lots of colours, lots of THEM. Opening a TV set or a computer or a simple Full-Duplex-Hyperband-FM-Receiver, you will be astonished by the amount of resistors you can find in a dark place like that. Every size, every colour, yes, resistors are multicultural. Put thousands of them into the smallest box you can find, and they won't start to fight against each other. You think this is based on the fact that they are PASSIVE elements? HA, aren't we PASSIVE, too in most terms?

What we want to say is: Let us be like resistors. We are already passive like resistors, we are already multi coloured like resistors, so let's make peace like resistors.

You can see that resistors don't just add resistance to a circuit, but they also show us how to live together in a small place like a printed circuit board. But that's not all. Have you ever seen a resistor polluting its environment? Have you ever seen a resistor holding a gun? No? - Well I think there is much more we can learn from them than adding resistance to our environment. The following two resistors can even vary their resistance, which makes them more flexible than their static friends. (but more expensive, too.)

resistor

A special type of variable resistor is a potentiometer or just "pot". Like the name says, you can varry its resistance. As a practical fact, there is a little screw on the top, where you can change the resistance of the pot. Sometimes this is a very useful option, for example if you have to calibrate the whole circuit.
